Carneys was founded by John Carney on 1 July 1964. John graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Laws and was admitted to practice in 1956. John developed a flourishing practice specialising in property, business and commercial transactions. In 1977 John's son Arthur Carney was admitted as a solicitor, following which he joined his father's firm, quickly establishing a busy common law, equity and commercial litigation practice.
