That is where there are many legal and safety areas to assess before calling PublicRecords.us legit or a scam.

Also, only checking the digital safety of the platform will not be enough. There are multiple reasons why you cannot trust public record sites.

The website has an SSL certification, and that is valid till 24th November 2026, and the SSL issuer is Amazon. 

Virus Scanning

I scanned the website on VirusTotal, and the report detected nothing malicious. Here is a screenshot of the test report.

The website clearly mentions the details about its physical address, the name of the organization, the concerned person, and the phone number. 

Thus, it has built a trust signal.

The domain age of PublicRecords.us is 24 years. Though the domain age alone does not vouch for the safety of the website, it signals that the platform has built trust. 

Scam Detection

I conducted a scam research of PublicRecords.us on ScamAdviser. The report mentioned the website to be “Very Likely Safe.”

So, keeping the technical analysis aside, can we really trust the report of the website? I have many reasons to say a “NO.”

In the introduction of the “Consumer Reports: What Information Furnishers Need to Know,” itself, the Federal Trade Commission clearly mentions, 

“The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is designed to protect the privacy of consumer report information — sometimes informally called “credit reports” — and to guarantee that information supplied by consumer reporting agencies (CRAs) is as accurate as possible.”

Moreover, according to the FCRA’s Furnisher Rule, the responsibilities are, 

• “Furnishing information that is accurate and complete, and
• Investigating consumer disputes about the accuracy of information you provide.”

Now, ConsumerAffairs has clarified that PublicRecords.us does not have to comply with the FCRA rules. Also, through the terms and conditions, the website does not vouch for “furnishing information that is accurate and complete.”

The Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA) Accreditation

PublicRecords.us does not have any accreditation with the Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA). 

This association sets a stringent code of conduct and operational standards for the companies that offer background screening services for tenancy and employment. 

Furthermore, a company can only achieve this accreditation after a detailed third-party analysis, and an accreditation means a green signal in the following sectors of a company.

So, not being accredited to PBSA raises serious concerns about the legitimacy of PublicRecords.us in the above-mentioned areas.

So, Is Publicrecords.us Legit? Weighing Compliance And The Safety Of Use

While Publicrecords.us scores well on the technical part with SSL certification, clear trust signals, clean virus and spam scanning reports, it falls flat on the “accuracy” part of the report. 

Furthermore, the database platform has no association with the Government of the USA, and it is not compliant with the FCRA guidelines. 

Moreover, the ConsumerAffairs clearly mentions that you cannot use the report of Publicrecords.Us for credit extension, tenant screening, or employment reasons. 

So, though Publicrecords.us is not a scam, it is not the cleanest or the most trustworthy platform for seeking public records of people across the USA.
